In a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour by young people, Beaumont set up the Youth Centre earlier this year. The idea was to reach those young people with the greatest needs.

A harrowing medical emergency led to the creation of the Abbey Centre Lifesaving Skills Schools Initiative. This nurse-led workshop has already visited 20 schools.

They say that every dog has its day but at Festival Place that day is now every day, thanks to the centre’s new dog-friendly scheme. More than 110 stores accept shoppers AND their four-legged friends.

All three regional winners were so impressive, but there can only be one overall winner and the judges were unanimous in their support for Festival Place.

Excellent customer service is definitely not the exception at Vangarde Shopping Park but the rule. Our judges were blown away by the many and varied examples of what the team at Vangarde does to ensure shoppers come back again and again.
Diversity & Inclusion Scheme of the Year
Crystal Peaks’ devotion to diversity and inclusion is amazing. The team has gone out of its way to ensure everyone is welcome. For example, it has installed a Changing Places toilet for those with disabilities.

Unfortunately, we are all too aware of the abuse and violence that retail workers face on a daily basis. Festival Place’s reaction to this was to become a Shopkind Champion, encouraging shoppers to literally be kind to staff.

Darren has been centre director at Meadowhall for 16 years now and what he’s achieved in those years is too long to list here. He lives and breathes retail, encouraging the industry to come together, connect, engage and innovate.

Neil has successfully navigated some big challenges under his leadership, not least of all the rumour that St Johns Centre had closed, which resulted in a 25% drop in footfall.

Footfall, dwell time, customer spending and new lettings have all increased under Scott’s leadership, with Caledonia Park achieving its highest-ever turnover year in 2023.

Julie’s marketing strategies really get great results for Grand Arcade. They helped increase footfall by 10% year-on-year last year and her efforts have garnered nine other awards over the past year.

The judges were impressed with how busy Alasdair has been! He had a bumper year completing 15 shop fit-outs and two refurbishments plus he continued in his efforts to save the centre money on its energy bills.

The judges were impressed with the comprehensive approach Kelly Townend and her team at Mill Gate Shopping Centre take with regards to retail liaison.

The security team at centre:mk success comes from building strong relationships with retailers, proactively addressing their concerns and offering expert advice.

Meadowhall Centre embraced sustainability as a core value, implementing projects that benefit the environment while leading the way in sustainability by focusing on enhancing biodiversity, reducing consumption and improving waste management.

The judges were very impressed with Ryan’s digital marketing skills which have brought Victoria Square some brilliant results in terms of social engagement as well as the all-important sales and footfall.
